Mr. Peters lived in the Little Traverse Bay area and took part in the Hiawatha Production and Celebrations in Harbor Springs. His complete biography is forthcoming from Kokopelli (#47139580) a Native American Find-A-Grave Member who awaits our photo of William Peters in his Hiawatha Dancing Costume he wore in Harbor Springs in the 1940s.
Bill Peters was a friend of “Red” Seldon in Petoskey. They first met in Detroit at the Paint and Body Shop owned by the famous Detroit Tiger baseball player, Elden Auker. Mr; Seldon ran the business for Elden, and Bill worked for Red. He called him the “Crazy White Man.” Over time they became good friends. Some years later, Mr. Seldon attended an Indian Pageant in Harbor Springs where to his surprise, he spotted Bill Peters in full costume. Then the two of them renewed their friendship. Towards the end of Mr. Peters life, he vacationed in Petoskey and spent a few weeks as a guest in Red’s home at 513 Petoskey Street. The photo of Bill performing at the Pageant in Harbor Springs is on a postcard that was given to Red in the 1940s.

From the 1940 Federal Census. Married 26 October 1931, Emmet County, Liber 4, Folio 199. To Rose Miximong, age 16. William at age 21. Employed as Hotel Worker. Rose as homemaker.
Rose Miximong, daughter of John Miximong and Agnes Walker. Grandaughter of Benjamin N. Walker (1835-1883) and Maria Noc-Ges-Ha Walker (1842-1912)
1940 federal census. Employed as painter. Wm head of household, 28 yrs of age. Born about between 1910 and 1912. Probably 2 July 1911. Living on current day Lake Street near the Bear River Bridge. Was then called Kaough Avenue.

Daughter Lillian, age 4
Mother In Law Agnes Miximong, Age 69

William dies 4 April 1979, Detroit, Wayne County Michigan. Probably interned in Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit with wife Rose. No burial confirmation records located at FamilySearch.Org, or Ancestory. Ive got a call into the cemetery office to confirm he is or isnt there. Still waiting.
