Notes for: George H. Bodine
He supposedly went to California to participate in the Gold Rush in 1849.
Looking at the records, George and Mary Elizabeth Bodine had their first children while living in southern Minnesota and not near the South Dakota line. They then must have moved to Moody, Dakota Territory around 1880. Minnesota, as it is today, became a state in 1858. South Dakota became a state in 1889. Before that, it was the Dakota Territory.

Oops -- I missed sending some data:
Following is probably [undoubtedly?] James Bodine's son, George--(based on father born KY, Mother born IL, and right age and George born Illinois, and children born MN). The family after that is Benedict Brown--brother of George's mother, Mary Louisa (Brown) Bodine (further research needed):

I also have the family members of James Bodine if you would like them. Would you like Maude's children?

I hope I haven't made this too complicated. This should give you a little history about Maude. She had quite the exciting life as John Edward was an elected official and they were invited to the white house and attended many balls and formal occasions.

I had known about my Grandfathers heritage but knew very little about my Grandmother so it was a real blessing to find your site and I really do appreciate all the have work you have put into it!

Thanks again,

Good Morning Dave!

We have always spelled Maude with an e. I looked her up on the Mn. Death Index and her name came up as Maude. But I have seen her name spelled without the e on various census etc. I'm not sure if that is just the preference of the person entering or what. I thought Maude was born in Mn. also but I have seen it often that she was born in Moody. I think the confusion comes because Dakota territory did include part of Mn. at one time. That's the only reason I can come up with for the confusion. I went back and checked on Louisa and you are right {I should never do this stuff at night} about her birthdate. Louisa was married twice. Her first husband was Harvey Adair and the second Charles Irish. I have her DOD as 7-27-1941. All those good Catholics with the first name of Mary and the Next group I'm going to give you is an example! I'm going to cut and paste this next group from the Mower County 1860 census. There are 2 Mary E.'s and a M. E. I can poke around a little more and see if I can find an explanation unless you already have one.
